Salary Range: 90-120K
Supervises: No direct reports - collaboration across ministries
Position Schedule: Monday-Thursday, Sundays required
OVERVIEW
The Teaching Pastor is a gifted communicator and collaborative ministry leader who serves as part of Hillside’s teaching team. This role is for someone who brings theological depth, creative engagement, and pastoral warmth to gathering spaces. They are equally invested in developing the next generation of teachers and communicators at Hillside. The Teaching Pastor works closely with the Senior Pastor to shape the annual teaching calendar and ensure that Hillside’s teaching ministry is rooted in Scripture and responsive to the needs of the community. RESPONSIBILITIES
Preaching and Teaching
Preach and teach regularly as part of Hillside’s weekend preaching rotation, delivering messages that are biblically faithful, pastorally relevant, and accessible to a broad audience
Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to develop the annual teaching calendar, ensuring coherence and missional alignment across sermon series
Contribute to the creative and theological development of each series, including theme, arc, and application
Teaching Development
Identify, invest in, and coach emerging communicators across Hillside’s staff and volunteer base
Create feedback rhythms and development pathways for those growing in teaching and preaching ministry
Champion a culture of continuous learning and improvement within Hillside’s teaching team
Collaborative Ministry
Partner with ministry leads to ensure teaching content connects meaningfully with small groups, formation pathways, and congregational life
Contribute to staff devotionals, leadership gatherings, and formational moments as needed
Serve as a pastoral presence in the congregation, engaging relationally with members and guests
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required. M.Div. or equivalent graduate degree strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience preaching and teaching in a local church setting
Proven ability to communicate biblical content accessibly to a broad, multigenerational congregation
Experience collaborating on sermon series development and teaching calendars

Exceptional communication skills. Engaging, theologically grounded, and culturally connected.
Strong exegetical and hermeneutical skills
Ability to give and receive honest feedback in a collaborative team environment
Coaching instincts: able to identify and develop emerging communicators
Strong writing skills for manuscript development, series planning, and curriculum input
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Ordination required or actively pursuing ordination
